Today Indian Cricket team will get its new coach. The Indian Cricket Board had received ten CVs out of which six selected for the interview process. The BCCI has chosen Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) including of former cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly will take the interviews and will final the coach today.
0ut of the received applications, the BCCI shortlisted ten candidates. They were: Ravi Shastri from India, Virender Sehwag from India, Craig Mcdermott from Australia, Lance Klusener from South Africa, Rakesh Sharma from India, Lalchand Rajput from India, Phil Simmons from West Indies, Tom Moody from Australia, Dodda Ganesh from India and Richard Pybus from England.
Out of these only seven are to be interviewed as per the reports, and they are Ravi Shastri, Lalchand Rajput, Phil Simmons, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody, Dodda Ganesh and Virender Sehwag. The reports also utter that the CAC and the selection panel have been well-versed by the BCCI that the process of selection of coach should be completed in such a way that he shouldn’t have any trouble with the captain to get all along or Vice Versa. The new coach selected will persist with the squad till ICC World Cup 2019.
Shastri had at first not applied for the post, but after the BCCI had extended the deadline to acknowledge applications till 9th July, the former India captain jumped into the tussle and unexpectedly became the hot favourite. Given his affable equation with Captain Virat Kohli, Shastri, who had a successful term as group director with India acquiring the 2015 World Cup semi-final.
Previously also Shastri was the frontrunner before Ganguly sprung a blow by getting Anil Kumble to throw his hat into the ring. Shastri and Ganguly had a public fight preceding year following Shastri questioned the selection procedure, but a process has been placed in Indian cricket all through Ganguly’s era whereby the captain’s view on coach selection is given maximum weightage.
The Indian team performed well throughout Shastri’s first term from 2014 to 2016. They were remarkable away from home as well. The squad reached the semifinals of the 2015 World Cup Down Under plus the 2016 ICC Twenty20 Cup in India.
The Shastri handled team lost the Test series in Australia, but received some good reviews for their brand of cricket, not to state the come from behind series win in Sri Lanka. Kohli loves Shastri’s capability to lift the dressing room ambience with his motivational discussions.
Shastri alleged to media recently that “The 18 months that I have depleted with the Indian squad has been the most cherished chapter of my involvement with the Indian cricket. When you set out on a journey, you set the bar elevated, but you don’t be familiar with what you can attain. Credit to the boys for making it unique.”
